Food for pregnant women: What are some good ideas?

Many women worry about eating, thinking about dieting during pregnancy, afraid to put on weight or cause any harm to the baby. It’s very important to pay attention to what you eat, because a healthy pregnancy goes through a nutrient-rich diet, but without radicalism or stress. Always seek the help of a healthcare professional to make these changes and avoid following tips you find on the internet or in magazines. Here are some simple ‘food for pregnant women ‘ ideas, and realize that this doesn’t have to be a seven-headed monster either. These tips are general and must not replace the recommendations of your healthcare professional.

Maintaining balance during pregnancy is important because excess weight gain can be associated with problems such as gestational diabetes or preeclampsia. Lack of nutrients, on the other hand, can cause growth problems in the baby and lack of energy in the mother. But you don’t have to despair. If you already have healthy eating habits, you don’t have to change much.

Food for Pregnant Women

I imagine you’re expecting a pregnancy diet guide, but if you’ve read some of my texts, you know that this attitude goes against what I believe. Of course, if you have many questions about your diet, talk to your doctor and ask for food and vitamin tips that are right for your individual situation.

Do pregnant women eat for two?

First let’s talk about the main myth about hunger in pregnancy: Pregnant women eat for two. This is not true. What you should think about is that a pregnant woman has to eat twice as well! Include fresh, varied and tasty foods and have a healthy and happy baby inside your belly! More than ever, it’s important to respect your hunger. Eat when you need and stop eating when you’re satisfied. This is the secret to balance, because if you go a long time without eating, you run out of energy, you may feel dizzy, nauseous, or even faint. Now, if you overeat, you may have heartburn and stomachache. None of these symptoms are pleasant when you expect a baby.

Ideally during pregnancy you should have quite a varied menu, including all the food groups, ie: meat, eggs, dairy products, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, basically, eat well. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and full of energy. Water is the best drink you can have! In my book “The Weight of Diets” you can find several delicious recipes to make for yourself and the whole family.

Are pregnancy cravings myth or truth?

Whenever we talk about feeding pregnant women, the question of cravings arises. Some women feel like eating different foods at odd times, but that’s not the rule. There are pregnant women who feel no change. Another very common thing is that some women start eating a food they didn’t like so much or reject something they adored before pregnancy. Some reasons may be that their sense of smell is sharper and the smells are more annoying, nausea can change tastes, and hormonal oscillation can also influence tastes.

As I said, respect your hunger and your cravings. If you have a strong craving, go ahead and eat. When eating guilt free and in peace, you don’t overindulge. Learn to identify emotional hunger, which is when we eat because of anxiety, nervousness or sadness. This hunger makes you eat more than your body needs.

It’s normal to feel anxiety while you wait for the baby, after all, it’s a moment that awakens insecurity, fear, joy, and so many other feelings. The important thing is not to forget about food and to deal with each one honestly. Talk to your partner, a friend or relative and talk about what you’re feeling. That’s the best way to understand what’s going on with you. If you feel very anxious and uncontrolled, talk to your doctor, a psychologist or a dietitian. They will help you find a path of calm and peace.

Food for pregnant women is not so different from food for any other person. Of course, your menu and routine should be stipulated according to the instructions of your doctor and dietitian, so do the prenatal exams, go to the consultations and resolve all your doubts. This is the best recipe for a healthy pregnancy and a happy baby!
